Afghan Rugs Cambridge

Traditionally crafted using techniques passed down through generations, Afghan rugs are known for their solid construction and durability.

Unlike machine-made rugs, our collection of handmade Afghan rugs are meticulously hand-knotted which is a time-consuming process requiring skilled craftspeople.

Afghan rugs, like most Oriental Rugs can, with the correct care and maintenance last for generations while keeping their appeal and appearance, so you’re not just buying a decorative piece for the home, you are making a lifetime investment.

Indian Rugs Cambridge

Indian rugs are known for their bold colours, intricate designs and overall luxurious feel. For an exceptionally soft and luxurious rug, Indian rug artisans use silk – one of the finest fibres available.

India boasts a varied history of rug making, and you can find distinct styles and techniques used from differing regions. These variations are often referred to by their own names, such as Agra rugs, Kashmir silk carpets or Indian dhurries, for example.

At Oriental Rugs of Norwich, we can help you explore the wide variety of Indian handwoven rugs to make sure you find the perfect rug for your home.

Pakistan Rugs Cambridge

Pakistan has a long history of rug making, and rug artisans have spent generations honing their skills to produce high quality rugs with delicate and intricate designs.

There are many types and styles of Pakistan rug making. Mori rugs, which are known for their geometric patterns and bold use of colour; Chobi rugs, which are named after the Urdu word for “stick” and often feature intricate floral patterns and natural dyes made from tree bark and flowers; and Persian-style rugs, which are directly inspired by the deep traditions of Persian rug making.

Pakistan rugs are well-made, stylish and will add a touch of elegance to your home.

Kilims Cambridge

Kilims are flatwoven using wool. Instead of a knotted rug pile they have a flat surface created by interlacing the warp and weft of the rug which results in a thinner, lighter and more breathable ‘rug’. The origins of this style of rug are Turkish or Anatolian, and vegetable-dyed wool is often used when constructing these rugs.

When crafting these unique rugs, weavers will pack the weft tightly to completely cover the warp. Designs typically feature diagonal or geometric patterns. Colours can range from the washed out and muted through to the bold and powerful. We have some wonderful colourful and bright kilims now in stock that I found on a recent buying trip to Pakistan.

Kilims are generally easy to maintain and clean, and so are a great choice for conservatories, kitchens, studies or office rooms while still offering affordable, aesthetic appeal.
