These runners are handwoven by the Hazara Tribes of Afghanistan. Designs and patterns for these fine, colourful pieces are taken from old Caucasian rugs, typically from areas south, east and north of the Caucasus mountains on the border of southern Russia and Northern Georgia. Wools used are local, hard wearing and hand spun. Dyes are natural and typically made from cochineal, indigo and other plants, flowers and barks giving rise to bright, vibrant colours. Once dyed and knotted on to a strong cotton base the rugs are then washed, clipped and finished by hand.

This beautiful and unusual mainly grey runner measures 6 feet 3 inches long by 2 feet wide ( 1.90 x 0.61 metres ).
